We are currently doing some R&D work for building a Mac version of Nitro Reader. We will post updates here as they become available.
Thank you to everyone for being so passionate about getting some Nitro love on the Mac, every little bit contributes.

To archive more users, I think that's very important to port Nitro PDF to Unix flavors like MacOS and Gnu/Linux.
In fact, a MacOS port will be very, very usefull.

Chris, As you might now, I am a HUGE supporter of Nitro and tech this to thousands of real estate agents every year. The demand for having a Nitro product for the MAC is growing larger and larger, and I actually got my first MAC, learning it and will be teaching it next month. I've looked at other PDF companies out there, and needless to say, there is nothing out there like Nitro. Please do take it into consideration as though I still am definitely a PC person, I do realize the fact that more people are using Apple products, and developing this would be a huge hit!

I'm another vote for a Mac version! These features look terrific.

Sascha,
Mainly editing & filling out forms. But now prolly also need iPad / Iphone as well as OSX.
OSX first will be fine - ;-) -

You're not wrong Ric. They should have an iZoony thingo as a prize.
-
Haven't heard of iZoony, is that actually a device?

Would there be considerable work involved for Nitro PDF Software to port the windows version to OSX?
Editing a PDF document or copying a portion of it is a key and powerful feature in NitroReader. Us Mac owners constantly use the PDF reader capabilities that are embedded in the OS X operating system.
Thank you. DickD -

I'll chime in here. I have a netbook on which I dual-boot XP and OSX. Pleased with it on XP, but then I flip over to OSX to download and install it on that side (and help bring down the Adobe monolith) only to find you've basically flipped me off. Gee, thanks. Guess I'll uninstall it from the XP side and forget you exist.

Sorry Turtle -- we're focusing on Windows for now and ensuring we do that well before we consider looking at other platforms. Picking our battles, making sure we win the ones we do.
Sorry we aren't for you, for now. -
-
So, like unless every developer spends significant time supporting every OS you use, you decide they're the idiots?
Most Mac users I know still use preview, but there's always Skim.app which does a passable READER job. -

I am new to Mac after using Windows for 20 years. I LOVE Mac for its speed and simplicity. What better matchup than Mac and Nitro? Windows is history, a behemoth that should go the way of the wooly mammoth. Please wake up and move on to the future NOW.

I don't give a damn about mac, nor support for it.
It's just another proprietary lot out there.
Just don't let it distract from the big heap, windows programming. -

If anyone needs one, a great PDF editor for Mac OSX is FormulatePro. I found it on a google code page.
-
AFAICT version 0.0.6 of FormulatePro does not allow edition of existing text.

Also very very disappointed no Mac version being considered. I have been a Windows user for over 20 years - switched to Mac mostly 2 years ago - makes more sense & safer. Mac is now used in my office fully. Mac is spreading in businesses (small ones for sure) as well as just to kids. Please add Mac software as soon as you can. Would be appreciated.
-
Hey Connie -- thanks for the feedback. Mac's have built-in PDF creation, viewing and commenting. Would love to hear how you'd use Nitro Reader instead of this if it was available.

Also, AFAIK any file that is readable by Preview can be saved as PDF. -

On Macs - Create or open any doc - then File > Print > pdf > save as pdf

The point is that every time I am on the Internet and I come across a PDF file (which is almost standard by now, mostly it is not even mentioned anymore) and I click to it, I have to either download it or open it in Acrobat. But you would not believe it, as many times as I point to the newest Reader version, it still asks where it can find the related application. Therefore I chose 'view as html' and up pops Nitro PDF Reader. Painfully slow, so I did look at the opportunity to upgrade. Only to find out that it is no more available for the Mac. And it does not mention anything about this at all. How come??

Nitro looks like a fantastic solution for Windows, which desperately needs such a product; I'll definitely be checking it out for my Windows needs. I'm not convinced it's such an easy sell on the Mac though.
Mac OS X has superior PDF support built-in. You can do considerable editing from the built-in Preview (including comments, highlighting, rearranging page order, combining & splitting PDFs, cropping PDFs, rotating pages — try doing that in Adobe Reader!). You can also create a PDF from any application from the Print dialog, no extra software needed.
For anyone who doesn't know: Mac OS X uses PDF for everything, in the background, including laying out the windows on the screen!
Anyone using Adobe Reader on a Mac is making work for themselves unnecessarily. Adobe make it seem like only their products are the solution: they're really not, and often fall short. If any Mac users out there have Adobe Reader installed, I implore you to eradicate it from your system; it's a parasite!
Also, as someone else pointed out, Skim is excellent. It has all the features of Preview, and more, with a better interface. Try it!
(There is one missing feature on OS X's native implementation: type-anywhere editing. Who knows, Apple may add it in a future release!)
On the other hand, I think Linux (and other Unixes) desperately need a decent PDF reader. Most of the current ones struggle at rendering, let alone offering reasonable editing capabilities. Want to reorder, combine or split a PDF in Linux? The typical response is use GhostScript (!!!). So let's hope Nitro might consider Linux in the future. -

The only bad thing about dumping Windows for Mac is that I've lost this useful tool. It's a shame there is no Mac version but I'll never go back to Windows! Never!

Chris and Sascha-
Such wonderful work-
PLEASE allow someone to make a MAC OSX version.
You would make alot of people very happy.
And we very happy Mac owners donate to projects like this.
Just a thought,
Sherry-
Thanks Sherry.

I am a Mac user and the feature I wish I had under OS X is to generate PDF bookmarks from the structure of a Word document. This is lacking because PDF generation is handled simply by the OS.
The best solution I have found is to run Windows, load my PDF into NitroPDF and generate the bookmarks. I would love not to have to run Windows to do this.

I am not sure but I think the market focus approach you are taking may be a little "so-twentieth-century". There is only one reason I am using Ntiro - annotations! More specifically annotations and Evernote integration.
Evernote at least is a Mac/Win platform and it's growing very nicely. So yeah there is an 'absolute market share' calculation for investment in the platforms. But are you looking at where the marginal growth in platform share is in your user base. How many are coming are looking for PDF integration with cloud or multiple platform (not to mention multiple form factor) applications?
Like more and more people, I am multi-platform - Mac at home, Win at work, iPhone and iPad filling the mobility need, and moving as much of my work, (and apps) as possible into the web.
A solution that has half the annotation features of Nitro, but is robustly platform independent will win my business in a heartbeat.-
We really are listening to this feedback Ric, thank you. Please make sure you vote up this question so we can register your vote.

Love the editing feature, but since Mac users can already create a PDF from any documents they can print it's use may be limited on OSX.

Mac and especially Linux users never show up with a wallet. The Mac folks have nothing left over after buying their gear from Steve and the Linux guys are too busy recompiling the kernel to have opened a bank account.
-
-
And let me add that if NitroPDF were available for Linux, this board would be flooded with "Why should I buy this crap when I could write my own in an evening" messages.

Is there a Mac version? I use Wikis to teach, and they have the link to PDF. I (and my students who use Macs) need this application badly, so they can complete their homework activities as easily as do my PC students.
The program has all the elegance (feedback tools) that make for great interaction for us with assignments, but it only works when I and students are on the PC platform, unless there is a Mac version.
That's discrimination (if not)!

Thank You Chris. I generate a lot of PDF docs saving various news articles on autos, computers, etc. being able to select only the portion I want and/or being able to fill in data on a PDF doc is very useful.

"The professional PC sector was the bright spot in the U.S. market," Ms. Kitagawa said. "Large enterprises were in the middle of their refreshment purchase period, which started last year. Small and midsize businesses (SMBs) were also at the peak of their refreshment periods. Due to budgetary constraints, the public sector had a slow start in the second quarter of 2011, even though the second quarter is typically a period of high PC sales."
Based on preliminary results, Apple showed the strongest growth among the top-tier vendors in the U.S., as it climbed from fifth place to third, overtaking Acer and Toshiba (see Table 2). The preliminary findings show Apple's performance far exceed the industry average, partly driven by an iMac refreshment that attracted both consumers and buyers in the education sector.
