I just tried to install PrimoPDF, and I got this error: Unable to install printer PrimoPDF - PrimoPort: -PrimoPDF: (1797),
Running XP, SP3 with no other printers attached. Thanks for the help!

I solved my Error 1797 problem by deleting the files listed below and then rerunning PrimInst.exe. The installer does not expect old files to be there; instead of overwriting the old files with new files as it should, it keeps the old files, which causes the installation to fail.
C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\x64\PrimoPDF.PPD
C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\x64\PrimoPDF.BPD
C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\x64\ps5ui.dll
C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\x64\PSCRIPT.NTF
C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\x64\pscript5.dll
C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\x64\PSCRIPT5.HLP

2There are two elements to the problem.
1. Path environmental variable must point to the sytem32 and wbem directories:
PATH=c:\windows;c:\windows\system32;c:\windows\sys tem32\wbem
2. The file framedyn.dll must reside in the system32 directory. If it doesn't, copy it there. It should be somewhere in the Windows directory.
After you performed those two steps the PrimoPDF printer should install.
How to perform the path change:
1. In Windows taskbar, Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel
2. In the Control Panel, double click on the "System" icon
3. Click on the "Advanced" Tab
4. Click on the "Environment Variables.." button
5. In the "System Variables" window (the one on the bottom), scroll down to locate "Path" variable. Select that variable and click on the "Edit" button
6. In the "Variable Value" field, check to see that the following is listed somewhere in that string of values:
%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem for example: %SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem
7. If it's not, then please add it to the end (don't forget to add a semi-colon to separate each variable). For example:
Variable Value: ...... ; %SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem
8. Restart your computer (Very important!), then try to install PrimoPDF again.
Before attempting the above, try installing as Administrator if you have done so yet.- view 2 more comments

Jim Watson September 08, 2010 22:24The path %SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem already existed in the windows directory and the file framedyn.dll also was present. I re-installed the program and the same printing error came up again. What now? Does this look like the way it is supposed to be. Windows 7.EditDeleteRemove

I am having the same error "Unable to install printer PrimoPDF - PrimoPort: -PrimoPDF: (1797)" but I am running win 7 64 bit attempting to install Primo 5 64 bit version. I have attempted on three machines and I get the same error on all three. I have disabled virus and access protection because I was seeing some items of the installation blocked in my virus access protection log, and I have followed the solution by Binh Pham and confirmed the path and the existence of the framedyn.dll in the system32 (and also the syswow64) folders.

Having Adobe installed wouldn't cause the installation issue with Primo.

Binh, Any chance there is any update from the developers? My problem continues and it looks like many others are having the same issue.

I am getting an error message of 1722 when trying to load the printer driver. It was working earlier today, then it stopped, and when I have re-installed, I now have this issue.
Please advise how to correct this. Thanks
Doug-
Is this during installation or when you print to the driver? What OS are you on?

Windows 7... it is during installation of the software... then it says, after about 75% of loading... that it can't do it with that error code..

Have you attempted the solution I provided a month ago (above)?

I have exactly this problem, too, on a new Windows 7 64-bit install. The DLL is in the right place and my PATH is correct.
One question, though -- the installation instructions say there are different downloads for 32-bit and 64-bit, and I only see one download. Is there only one, or is there some special way to get to the 64-bit version?-
The 32-bit and 64-bit installers are both included in the same installation file. It will detect which system you are using then install the correct driver for your machine.
Looks like the User Guide needs to be updated. I will get our technical writer to update this. -

Same problem, everything is set up according to your instructions.

I got the same 1722 error under windows 7, solved it by clicking on the start button -> run -> typing "services.msc". Then I found "Printer Spooler service" and set it to automatic and started the service.

The networking code on my PC locked up -- ping worked but I couldn't set up a TCP connection -- and I ended up reinstalling Windows from the restore DVDs. After that, PrimoPDF installed without a hitch. I have no idea what would have been different about my set-up.
I'm not recommending this as a way to work around the problem, but it demonstrates how random it seems to be. -

Same problem as above but I am running Windows 7 and am a novice when it comes to fixing things like this. Please help.

Have your tried stephen.laplante's solution?

I recommend you try our other product Nitro Reader instead. It's a PDF viewer and creator all in one and it's free.

I have exactly the same issue on my Windows 7 64bit version... any word yet, tried everything in this thread and still its not working.

I gave up. Was not worth my effort. Instead, I discovered there are various pdf makers out there that are comparable and better. Black Ice is awesome and free and they have various downloads that PC Magazine gave top marks.
-
This is the only solution out of the bunch that really worked for me. I tried them all. Blackice works great.

Pham, do you have a solution for the Unable to install printer PrimoPDF - PrimoPort: - PrimoPDF : (1797) error? I am running Windows 7 64-bit. Please help. Thank you.
-
Unfortunately all the solutions I have come across are listed above. If you want we can do a remote session so I can log onto your machine and have a look around to see what might be causing the issue. Let me know if you're ok with that.

I tried running the install program in XP compatibiliyt mode, and
did run it as an administrator

I checked my path . It was fine. I found one primodpf file in drivers/x64. removed it. reran InternationalPrimoPDF.exe
Same problem. Waste of time. Loved it on my old machine. Very frustrated.
This gives your company a bad name. Someone should fix it right, or stop deploying PrimoPDF. -

I just tried installing PrimoPDF on my Dell Inspiron One running windows 7.
It loaded up but gave the message in quotes below;
"Unable to install printer Primo PDF - Primo ort; Primo PDF: (1797)"
When I look for a PDF printer to install I cannot find one. Why is this?
Printing to a PDF printer is the one reason I downloaded Primo in the first place.

I couldn't install Primo PDF on my Windows 7 (64bit) system
Here is the solution:
Install PrimoPDF as normal and disregard error message
Then instal the Primo PDF printer Manually like so:
Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Device and Printers
Add a printer
Add a local printer
Use an existing port: PrimoPort:(PrimoPDF Port)
Manufacturer → Lexmark : Printers → Lexmark C522 PS (MS) [Other Printers May Work]
Printer Name: PrimoPDF
Select the Printer Sharing option you want.
Print Test Page
Finish

PrimoPDF installed, but doesn't show up as an available printer to print from. no messages came up to indicate that anything was installed wrong at all.
I'm running windows 7 64bit professional. I am the computer's administrator. I have all that stupid windows security stuff disabled, and I ran the install exe as an administrator.
I cant think of what else to do :(

I'm running Windows Professional XP. Previously PrimoPDF was running fine on my computer and then suddenly it stopped. I uninstalled and then tried to reinstall but received the error message: "Unable to install printer PrimoPDF - PrimoPort:L - PrimoPDF: 1797"
It seems lots of people have been having trouble reinstalling Primo, and I have tried the suggested solutions found on this site and the previous version of the user help forum without success (such as deleting system files and reinstalling etc).
Please help!

I keep trying to install not just Primo PDF but even the drivers to my HP Desk-jet Printer and they BOTH won't work. I'm directed to go to "my computer" then access the "services/applications" file. Then locate the "Print Spooler" file and then right click on it and select for it to "start". I THEN get another error saying that there is an error due to it "cannot locate the file"! WTF!!! Can ANYONE out there help me?!
Please help me! -

Getting an error message when I try to install PrimoPDF. I already had the product installed and working. It stopped spooling so I uninstalled the software and then when I tried to install I get the following error message:

Hello,
I also tried the above mentioned solution, which unfortunately did not work for me.
In the search for a different virtual printer, I installed PDFcreator v1.2.3 which on installation gave an error saying that my path to "%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem" either does not exist or it is corrupt.
It offered to correct the error for me and then asked that I should restart. After restart I was able to install both PDFcreator and PrimoPDF.
Maybe this approach will work for some of you. But don't forget to RESTART the PC after that message, PDFcreator did not restart the PC automatically.
Good luck! -
-
What happened to me was that my printer queue was actually stopped. So go to Control Panel-->Administrative Tools-->Service and start the Printer Spooler. (To do so go to Properties and change the service to start automatically and click the 'start' button). Good luck! That worked for me!

Same issue for me. Get the 1797 every time I try to install. Have uninstalled and reinstalled several times. Same results time after time.

I believe that this post has solved this problem with a work around:
