Symptoms
When printing to Nitro Creator an error is displayed highlighting there is no data to print, displaying on the Nitro Creator as "Occurrence of user-interacted or failed conversion" as shown below.
Cause
This issue has been linked to a number of different issues, it occurs when the Nitro Creator (virtual printer) is unable to access data within the corresponding spool file. This can occur in various scenario's.
Scenario #1
A specific application is printing using an unsupported data type other than EMF, normally RAW data type.
Scenario #2
The application is printing using the correct data type however the file being printed is empty resulting in an empty unsupported spool file.
Scenario #3
There could be an issue with your spool services, resulting in spool files failing to be created. This will occur when you are creating a PDF from any application
Resolution
To resolve Scenario #3 you can navigate to the following utility%windir%\system32\services.mscOnce open you will be able to scroll down and select 'Print Spooler' try restarting this and ensure that the startup type is Automatic
Known Applications Experiencing This
Application :SAPGUI
Work Around :Caution! This fix requires you to edit the registry. Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Nitro cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. Be sure to back up the registry before you edit it.
To force the SAPGUI to send the data as EMF data add the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SAP\SAPlpd\SAPLPD
Type: String
Name: SwinDataType
Value: EMF
Application :OpenText (formerly Vista Plus)
Application :Winflex
Application :QuickBooks Pro v6.0
Application :Message Viewer Lite & Pro
Work Around :No documented work around is known currently.

Yea I get this message every time too. I tried printing from several different common programs (Chrome, OpenOffice, IE, Notepad, etc.), saving in several different locations and multiple printing options to see if anything made a difference but I just got the same message every time. I am running 64-bit windows 7 if it helps.

Here I tried to print the email notification I received for your post to pdf on Chrome with Nitro PDF Creator. And yes, for your comment above I got the exact same error for every application I tried so far. It asks me where I want to save the pdf and then pops up that message window in the screenshot about 1 second later.

I had a question on this failure. I just saw it for my first time. I had actually closed some of the windows for the conversion. Are you closing or manipulating any of the applications after the conversion is initiated? Are you simply starting the conversion, and then waiting?
Thanks! -
-
No, I wasn't trying to do anything with the other program, I clicked print and went through the process to print with Nitro without moving the other program at all. Now with google chrome I have a lot happening with extensions so it is possible the program was continuing to work and little things were running in the background. However with OpenOffice and Notepad I definitely just clicked print and went through the printing process until the error appeared, I didn't manipulate the application being printed from at all.
Also I'm thinking that your conversion is taking longer to show the error than mine is. After I click print with Nitro PDF Creator selected as my printer the error appears almost instantaneously. By the time I click through the windows to make the conversion I don't really have time to manipulate the window before I get the error. -

Hey I just wanted to let you know that the latest update fixed the problem for me. I saw that nitro had an update when I used it today so I decided to test the print problem and it worked great, no errors!

I have the latest Nitro PDF Professional version and just began having this error yesterday for no obvious reason. Previously, I was having no problems when printing directly to Nitro PDF, but now am getting the same error message as noted by the original poster. Please advise how to proceed, as the software currently is doing me no good. Thank you.

I have just started getting the same error with MYOB printing invoices through NitroPDF Professional. I checked on updates and my version was completely up- to date.
I tried opening Nitro PDF before printing the invoice and that worked but it is not a clean work-around.

Hey Everyone,
Can you post the applications and specific version information that are failing when you get this error? We will likely want to try and test printing to the NItro Creator from these applications.

I get this error too ("Occurrence of user-interacted or failed conversion."). It only happens from one app (an ancient QuickBooks Pro) and printing to Nitro from that app worked on July 31/11.
I can still print to Nitro PDF from other apps and I can still print to other printers from this QuickBooks Pro. It's only the one combination that's not working.
Status is "failed", Description is "No data to print".
Win 7 64-bit, Nitro PDF 6.2.1.10 (no updates available).
This thread is 10 months old, has there been any progress?
Thanks!

I reported a similar problem here: http://gsfn.us/t/2l7ks and see another thread started a few hours ago here: http://gsfn.us/t/2l7kx with the same error (although slightly different circumstances)
I was afraid that my reported error was too unique and that it would be ignored. Now I hope that the root cause to a problem that is over a year old will get some attention and be fixed.
You might want to merge the threads? Could be specific to 64-bit. I am Vista Ultimate 64-bit with the latest version of Nitro Pro 7 (7.0.2.8). ~David Vaughan

No problem printing to Nitro PDF Creator from my normal mail client (Windows Live Mail Essentials 2011). Only when printing from Message Viewer Lite (or Pro) that I am trying out (trial). I didn't really expect that you would go to the trouble to install this not-too-popular program but now that I see that a similar problem has been reported from other, more popular applications, you might want to see if you can reproduce the error by whatever means. I see that you have posted some other things to try. I will take a look and let you know. ~David Vaughan

Cheers that would be great if you could, are you also able to try printing to the Creator from a PDF file within Nitro Pro ? I know it sounds silly but it seems others have had that issue along with printing from Web Browsers ?
Are you able to Print to Nitro Creator from IE or Chrome and Nitro Pro ? -

I have purchased the latest version of Nitro Pro 7 (7.0.2.8). Today I am using a trial of Message Viewer Lite from www.encryptomatic.com. This program allows for viewing email messages without the need for Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows Live Mail, etc. Anyway, I wanted to use Nitro PDF Creator 2 to create a PDF version of some old email I copied from an old computer. Unfortunately, the email creation fails with a message in the Nitro PDF Creator tray applet that says: Occurrence of user-interacted or failed conversion. The General tab says: Status: Failed. Description: No data to print. I thought this might be a limitation of the Message Viewer Lite trial but another installed PDF printer works fine and without issue with the same criteria. When opening the same email in my normal email program (Windows Live Mail Essentials 2011), I can use Nitro PDF Creator 2 to successfully produce a PDF. It appears that print-to-pdf from Message Viewer Lite is somehow incompatible with Nitro PDF Creator 2. This is not necessarily your problem but I am concerned about finding your product to be more temperamental than similar competing products. Not sure if there is anything I can do to help you troubleshoot the problem except to have you install Message Viewer Lite and test it yourself. I understand that this is probably asking too much! Let me know if you have any idea what is going on? ~David Vaughan

Thank you David, I will download the program first thing tomorrow morning and see if I can replicate this, if I am able to I will be able to pass this through to our engineering team.
Alternatively I may reach out tomorrow to you to run some further tests.

Hi Alexander,
since Support did nothing, for 6 month, it is nice to see some one still interested.
I had my problem with Version 6. Since installing of Version 7 it is gone.

Hi Thomas,
I apologise for that, I have only just come across this forum post recently. It seems these issue can be caused by an array of elements within the creation process.
If you find that you come over this again please let me know so I can resolve it for you!

Only a problem printing from this specific application (Lite or Pro) to Nitro Creator. Other applications print fine. Printing the same *.eml file from Windows Live Mail Essentials 2011 prints fine. Neither Message Viewer Lite or Pro are 64-bit applications although they are compatible with 64-bit.
Note that if you trial the pro version, you need to set the default printer before starting the Message Viewer Pro application. The "Print" button bypasses the dialog that allows you to select which printer to use. The Lite version allows you to select the printer.
Same Nitro PDF Creator error... Status: Failed Description: No data to print
I will now go through the same steps plus "Save Application Logs" and email the results. ~David Vaughan

Hi David,
Thank you for your help on this, I have submitted this through to our engineering team.
After downloading the application you were experiencing it with I have been able to replicate, in this instance it appears that Nitro Creator captures no data in the spool file. Our engineering team will need to look at how MessageViewer and other applications similar to this submit information to the printer.
I have filtered this through to our engineering team and will hope that we can get this resolved through an update for you. Unfortunately there is no work around that I could identify.
I will keep you posted as I hear more, thanks for your help and patience,

Hi Roger,

This error happens only when prininting from SAP GUI

Hi There,
You might find this post interesting, this is an issue regarding the data type being used to send information to the printer, by default this appears to be RAW within SAP GUI, this is a way to change the support type of EMF, this workaround is listed above.
Let me know if you need any further help.

Unable to create PDF from QuarkXpress 7.
Error message "occurance of user-interaced or Failed Conversion"
Any help appreaciated

QuarkXpress PDF creation problem.-
Hi Don,
It looks as though QuarkXpress uses a different type of print data than EMF, as a result the spool files that are being created are not able to be used to by Nitro Creator during the creation process.
Looking into QuarkXpress I believe that this would fit into situation #1 highlighted above in my post, this would be highlighted as it is only a single application that is generating this issue.
I apologise for the inconvenience, at this stage we don't offer support for other print data types like RAW, however hopefully we can soon.
Thanks,
Alex -
