How to disable Web Browser Integration on Internet Explorer
I prefer to open the PDF outside the browser. I will have to delete Nitro PDF Reader unless I get directions on how to remove it.

1Hi Everyone,
There can be some difficulty when removing the Nitro Plugin from Internet Explorer 8. This is a known issue within Internet Explorer when utilizing Add-ons. I would recommend to try and following these steps in this order.
Disable Through Internet Explorer
1. Click on the Tools menu
2. Click Manage Add Ons
3. Under the Show sections, pull down the menu and select All add ons.
4. Right click on Nitro PDF Plugin
5. Click Disable
Disable using the Alternate Method
1. Go to Start > Run, then type “cmd” for the Command Prompt (If the user is running Windows Vista/7, they need to right click on the Command Prompt and choose “Run As Administrator”
2. Type in the following:
Nitro Pro 7 | 32bit : regsvr32 –u “C:\Program Files\Nitro PDF\Professional 7\npnitroie.ocx”
Nitro Pro 7 | 64bit : regsvr32 –u “C:\Program Files (x86)\Nitro PDF\Professional 7\npnitroie.ocx”
Reader 2 | 32bit : regsvr32 –u “C:\Program Files\Nitro PDF\Reader 2\npnitroie.ocx”
Reader 2 | 64bit : regsvr32 –u “C:\Program Files (x86)\Nitro PDF\Reader 2\npnitroie.ocx”
3. Restart Internet Explorer and try loading a PDF in your browser – it should prompt to download the file instead
4. This will now have disabled the Nitro Plugin, this could have left you with no Plugin Now.
Enable your previous plugin
To enable your previous plugin, for example Acrobat Reader if it fails to automatically become the default plugin, you will need to run a repair on it so it sets itself as the default viewer.
1. Navigate to windows Control Panel
2. Click on Add/Remove Programs (XP) or Uninstall a Program (Vista & Win7)
3. Locate Adobe Reader and click on 'Change' on the top ribbon
4. Select 'Repair' and follow the repair process.
5. Opening a PDF now should result in it being displayed through Adobes Plugin.

Hi Javier,
You can disable the web browser plug in by going to Tools menu > Manage Add Ons. Under the Show sections, pull down the menu and select All add ons. Right click on Nitro PDF Plugin > Disable. Close and re-open Internet Explorer for the changes to take affect.
If that doesn't work then please let me know -

Thank you for this helpful how-to! The "Repair" for the other program worked for me.
Nitro 7 is a great program by itself but it is just too buggy to be used with third-party applications. -

Hi,
After installing Nitro reader for the first time, disabling the add on in IE8 works fine.
After uninstalling NR the disabled add on is still in place.
Then after reinstalling NR or upgrade for a new version, with integration in IE8, it is impossible to disable the add on, because it is disabled.
May be first reenable and then disable?- view 5 more comments

Hi Alex,
Are you able to navigate to the directory below and confirm that the file 'npnitroie.ocx' is located there?
C:\Program Files\Nitro PDF\Reader 2\ = YES
Can I confirm with you once again that within IE 8, when you view a PDF file, it is loaded within the Nitro Plugin ? NOT loaded with NR.
and further to confirm that when you visit the manage add-ons area, the plugin is visible however it is shown as disabled already ? Yes still visible
Can I get you to try the following command, here we are taking away the '-u' which will register the plugin opposed to unregistering the plugin.
Reader 2 | 32bit : regsvr32 “C:\Program Files\Nitro PDF\Reader 2\npnitroie.ocx”
Registering succes.
After this has been run, can you now try the following original line ?
Reader 2 | 32bit : regsvr32 –u “C:\Program Files\Nitro PDF\Reader 2\npnitroie.ocx”
Unregistering succes - But 2 plugins still visible (perhaps system restart needed?)

After a restart is it still there ? Can I confirm if you have Nitro Pro installed or ever have ?
It would be great if you could lodge a support ticket so we can follow this up in more detail.
If you still have two entries under the add-on area and want these removed, I might get you to try and run our cleanup script, simply download cleanup.zip and extract cleanup.vbs and run it. This will remove Nitro Reader & Nitro Pro and all preferences. Once you have done this I would recommend Re-installing Nitro Reader again.
Does this leave you with only one entry under IE8 ?
If you could also let me know your support ticket number through a reply that would be great.
Cheers,
Alex -

I am using Nitro 2.1 for filling forms. When I open the form on my hard drive, it opens and there are fields to be completed. I put the forms on our intranet for all users. When the user goes to the intranet and chooses to open a form, it opens it but none of the fields are fillable. I can choose the typewriter to complete the form. I am using IE8. Nitro is set as my default pdf reader. Any ideas how I can fix this?

Hi Margie,
You might find this interesting and helpful, there have been issues in IE8. I would recommend trying to disable through IE first and if that is unsuccessful then try the alternate method.
Cheers,

We are encountering an issue with Nitro PDF. Other threads addres the issue of how to associate a software program with a specific file type, e.g., opening up PDF files with Nitro PDF.
However, this is not the case when opening up PDF files in IE. we are running a PeopleSoft application that creats PDF file for viewing. Whenever we open up a PDF file, it is opened with Nitro PDF not Adobe Acrobat. We have employees who have Nitro PDF installed on their machines, but need to have PDF files opened with Adobe.
Despite the fact that Adobe is the default viewer for files stored on the network, when opening up files in IE it continues to open with nitro PDF. How do we force IE to open PDF files with Adobe? This is not an issue with Firefox.

When I click on a PDF link in Internet Explorer, how can I stop NitroPDF from automatically openning the PDF file inside internet Explorer-vrs8 (XP). Shouldn't this be a simple choice inside the user preference option. I have unchecked Nitro as the Default viewer but that does not correct the problem.

I could not disable the add-in through Internet Explorer because it does not show in the add-in list, even when specifying "show all."
I was able to disable (or remove) the Nitro add-in using regsvr32 as described in the alternate method. I ran a repair on Adobe reader and everything is as it should be.
XP, Nitro Pro 7, IE8 -
