Highlighting PDF files scanned with limited functionality
Some of my older PDF's were scanned with limited functionality. I can add comments to those files using Nitro but can't highlight text. Am I missing something?

Dear Paul,
If you have scanned files then you will not be able to use the highlight tool until you run an OCR application on the document.
You can use the OCR application that normally comes bundled with your scanner, or if you didn't get one bundled then you can upgrade to Nitro PDF Pro with OCR.
Then when you first open the file, you would click on the big OCR button and select editable text.
After that happens your get a new PDF that you can highlight as it has been change from one big picture to a file with editable text..
Hope this helps.
Cheers,

I have just installed 64bit version on a Windows7 system. Don't seem to be able to get text highlight, crossout or underline to work. Software was downloaded and installed today, 09/28/10. Otherwise seems great (So Far) Thanks.

William, see David's comment above and see if that applies to you.

The highlight function does not work. Instead it copy the entire page. It will not even let you select just one word or sentence. The moment you click your cursor it tells you it has copied to selected page to clipboard.

It copies the entire page because I believe that your PDF is just an image based PDF. There is no real text in the PDF, just an image. So when you click, it selects the only object in the PDF, the image.
You'd need to run OCR over the PDF (which adds live text to an image based PDF) before you could start highlighting text. -

So how do you "run OCR over the PDF...."

I can't highlight either. Using Pro, I opened up my PDF, clicked on OCR, converted to readable text - and nothing - still can't highlight!!??

Now I get an error "program needs to close". Went through the motions, and reported the problem. Wow. So far I'm not very impressed. MY Adobe package converted to OCR immediately upon attempting to highlight text.
I just spend $100 on this software. Sure hope I don't end up regretting this. -
