Drawing tools

Is there a way we can draw lines on a pdf. Imagine using a tablet, instead having to type text, we just write it using the stylus. My workaround is to turn on the smartboard software and draw on top of the pdf page. I want support similar to that found in Microsoft Office.

Thanks for posting - the ability to draw using pencil tool or write directly onto a PDF is not available in Nitro Reader, but it is available in our Nitro Pro product. The pencil tool allows you to draw directly onto the PDF using the mouse. We are investigating tablet and pad integration in the future. There is a free fully functional trial or purchase at www.nitropdf.com
Let us know if you try it out

    Hello!

I run a structural engineering firm and we use various PDF tools in our exchange of construction documents between members of the design and construction team. Generally, these need to be free tools in order that all members of the teams can grab the tools necessary to view and mark-up documents - and - many folks simply cannot or will not authorize purchasing new software. Thus, we have been using and suggesting PDF XChange Viewer (free) by Tracker Software because of its ability to "mark-up" PDF documents. NitroPDF has some commenting and stamping capability but does not provide the mark-up tools (i.e. lines, boxes, arrows, clouds, etc.) that are comparable to PDF XChange Viewer. There isn't a huge difference in feature sets between the two products, but the missing mark-up tools are quite important. We really like the interface and clarity of your product, but it really needs to add just few more mark-up tools to bring it up to where PDF XChange Viewer currently is. Please take a look at that product and you will see what I am referring to. I hope that you can add at least the minimal drawing tools that you see in that product....we'd love to make the switch but simply cannot give up the tools.

    Thanks,

    galileo

    • I am in a related industry, where engineers in different companies (our customers, our vendors) need to be able to share, comment on, collaborate with, various drawings. Some of the collaboration works find using Microsoft Office tools, while some is very difficult, because different companies have adopted different proprietory software, and management reluctant to pay for something just to communicate with one other company, when many companies pushing us to get other tools.

      I think one solution approach:
Sell a tool which CREATES drawings and places them in a standard format, which any free reader can then view, but sell a paid version to make any changes to the drawings.

I understand this may be difficult to do in a pdf reader, but wouldn't it be great to be reading half way, and poof! I have a great idea and I wanna draw directly on this pdf file! Like how primary school kids love to scribble drawings of nasty teachers getting beaten up on their text books :D

It would be nice if If Nitro pdf had drawing or paint with a pen option. This would be nice because if you are writing notes that involve symbols, such as in mathematics , chemistry or any area requiring hand illustrations, then you could call the paint option and annotate the pdf with the pen using a Bamboo writing pad. This would be ideal.

Is there a wayt I can add free hand drawing items to my PDFs like in MS Paint or the like? This would be very helpful to annotate Furniture Plans and Maps. Thanks.

Say you have a picture of something in the PDF be it a an object or a person.

It would be really nice to be able to draw an arrow to it and add text to comment on the object or person. Example: A picture of a person in a outfit and being able to draw an arrow to the shoes or hat and post a comment like "Would be better in color red" or "The hat has got to go!"

This would be a great option when you are sharing the PDF with a group of people
and looking for comments or suggestions...

I agree, advanced markup options would be a nice addition. I also have a tablet pc and this ability would greatly help my productivity.

All industries in Construction have found Adobe Acrobat to be useful due to their additon of editing tools...and for me....the Measuring/Area/scaling functions of Adobe. If you wan to make the next big step, you need to add this feature.

Meauring: Scale, measure, area, volume etc...would be great
Editing/markups: Clouds, draw boxes with dimensions would be cool, hand markups via a stylus would be great.

Measuring: Is the #1 feature to keep me. I'm a builder/Manager that needs this.
It allows construction companies to get electronic drawings, be able to go to a specific drawing within a set of 30 drawings...and then directly scale, measure and do quantity take-offs. Saves construction firms lots of money and allows us to work at the field level very efficiently. Make this next addition and I'd buy this software all day long.

Of course..implementation into the IPADs etc..would be important too...

    • I need to be able to draw easily custom sized boxes and customize fill and outline...inclusion of simple shapes as well.
    • I work on graphic automated pdf forms. It is essential that I have a line editing tool that particularly makes changing the length of a line easy. The 6.0 series allowed lengthening a line with an oblique arrow--not an arrow pointing in the direction of the line end. This was challenging to do because the oblique line could increase the thickness. NitroPro 7.0 is less functional than 6.0. It is almost impossible to change a line length.

NitroPro 7.0 presents some new problems in text editing. 6.0+ allowed one to select one line of text. Often 7.0 chooses multiple lines and will not allow easy selection of a single line of text. It is also challenging to edit the text without deleting the text in a text box and retyping it.

It is imperative that NitroPro acquire the ability to show the x-y coordinates of each point on a pdf.

I have used NitroPro since 6.0 was first released. I have used FoxIt, Adobe Acrobat and Open Office Draw in the past. Your engineers might look at the editing ability of Open Office Draw. It allows one to open a properties dialog for each line and edit by changing length numerically.

I enjoy the feel of NitroPro 7.0 and use it edit PDF's and annotate them. I appreciate the "flatten pdf" feature. I wonder if some of my problems arise from working on content of a pdf and annotation layers at the same time.

I need instructions on how to do the line and text editing properly OR statement that NitroPro does not function as I am expecting. Thank you for your attention to this. jashill5182@gmail.com

I was reading a book in PDF, but since it was scanned the words cannot be highlighted easily. Perhaps the highlight function could work in the form of boxes, not only with specific text.

An approach might be to identify the background color on the document and then substitute a highlighter color wherever it shows within your rectangular box. Sounds doable. I use color substitution all the time in LViewPro so I know it can be done.

I see the option for Pencil mode now, which pretty much works. But when remoting from a tablet, I'd like to have big buttons to choose back and forth from. That would be excellent, then PDF markings with a stylus should be super easy if there were a few main buttons you could specify, pencil, save, undo, redo, highlight, mouse mode, etc.

    silly I’m interested
Many years ago, I was interested in creating flow charts.
We would get a library of shapes, and tools to inter-connect them, and this could get tedious without good drawing tools, especially when we needed to insert modifications into an existing flow chart, and still have the result readable.

I forget the name now, but there was a software package, where we could write in text which was a mixture of English, and looked like computer programming logic, using an indented format of IF THEN ELSE type language, then the software would convert that into a flow chart.

I would love to have a tool which would let me do this:
