Changing default PDF viewer in IE

We are encountering an issue with Nitro PDF. Other threads addres the issue of how to associate a software program with a specific file type, e.g., opening up PDF files with Nitro PDF.

However, this is not the case when opening up PDF files in IE. we are running a PeopleSoft application that creats PDF file for viewing. Whenever we open up a PDF file, it is opened with Nitro PDF not Adobe Acrobat. We have employees who have Nitro PDF installed on their machines, but need to have PDF files opened with Adobe.

Despite the fact that Adobe is the default viewer for files stored on the network, when opening up files in IE it continues to open with nitro PDF. How do we force IE to open PDF files with Adobe? This is not an issue with Firefox.

    Hi Fred,

Can I confirm which version of IE you are currently using ? You should be able to simply navigate to 'Tools' > 'Manage Addons', here you should be able to select the Nitro Plugin and disable it while ensuring Adobe's is enabled.

There have been issues in completing this within IE 8 as there are known issues with the way IE 8 handles plugins, please let me know which version your users are utilizing and I can provide you with exact instructions on how to achieve this.

    Cheers,

    Alex
